CONCLUSION
This Submission of SUBIRA is only the first step in a series of stages that the movie has to undergo before being nominated. The nominees for the 92nd Academy Awards will be announced by the Academy in January 2020.
We would like to see more entries in the running to represent the country at the Academy Awards. The specifications are available on the Kenya Film Commission Website and also on The Academy Website under Academy Special Rules and Regulations – i.e. Rule Thirteen
We wish to congratulate the stellar cast and crew, director and producers of Subira for the great film that they presented for the Committee. We wish you all the best in the next steps to being a nominee of the Oscars and hopeful winners as well.
To all aspiring entrants, consider submitting your Films, Documentaries and Animations to local and international festivals starting with Kalasha, RiverWood, FESPACO, Durban DIFF, Zanzibar ZIFF, Dubai DIFF, and further afield, festivals like Berlinale, Cannes, Toronto Film Festival, and Sundance. This will expose the world to Kenyan productions and hopefully catch the eye of Academy members who will make the selection of nominees for the various categories in the Academy Awards.
Please look out for the next Academy call in mid-2020. There will also be periodic communication from the Selection Committee each quarter.
