Capacity Building

The commission undertakes capacity building programmes focusing on strengthening the local film makers’ professional skills and equipping them with information which enable them to compete effectively in the local and international film environments.

The emphasis is to focus on scriptwriting, animation and entrepreneurship, intellectual property rights, marketing and performance skills. In order to stimulate and advance skills development, meet the current needs of the film industry, and to ensure the industry’s future growth and competitiveness, the commission offer training and development programmes that address industry skills gaps.

FILM CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP – BUNGOMA  COUNTY

FILM PRODUCTION

23rd – 28th March  2020

The Commission will conduct a 6-day film production workshop in Bungoma Town  in the areas of; Scriptwriting, Directing, Cinematography and Editing

 Criteria

  • Applicants must have a broad knowledge or interest in filmmaking, film business and/or TV.
  • They must have desirable knowledge of the current trends in contemporary fiction, film and TV drama
  • Selected participants must attend all the 6 days of the workshop.
  • Interested participants are required to register HERE

NOTE

Kenya Film Commission will not cater for Transport and Accommodation during the workshop; therefore participants are advised to make their own arrangements for the same. The workshop will however provide training materials/stationery and meals during the sessions.

The Kenya Film Commission has undertaken to conduct a Film Incubation Hub in Uasin Gishu County with a focus of training aspiring filmmakers in a span of four (4) weeks. The film hub will be running from Monday – Saturday weekly.

 Application requirements

  1. Applicants must have knowledge and interest in filmmaking, film business and/or TV.
  2. They must have desirable knowledge of the current trends in contemporary fiction, film and TV drama.
  3. Selected participants must be available for the entire workshop period.
  4. Applicants must be residents of Uasin Gishu County.
  5. Application deadline on Monday  9th March, 2020.

In a bid to facilitate the uptake of 60 per cent local content quota by FTA TV broadcasters, the Kenya Film Commission facilitates masterclasses around the country for film makers. To date, the Kenya Film Commission has trained over 900 up-coming filmmakers in 19 counties.

Participants will learn about Sound in order to meet the current needs of the film industry and to ensure the industry’s future growth and competitiveness.

Criteria

  • Applicants must have relevant tertiary qualifications or some experience in the Film and TV industry.
  • They must have a broad knowledge in filmmaking, film business and/or TV and must have a keen interest in scriptwriting.
  • Applicants must have desirable knowledge of the current trends in contemporary fiction, films and TV drama
  • Selected participants must attend all the 3 days of the workshop.
  • Interested participants are required to register HERE
  • Application deadline is on Friday, 7th June 2019 COB.

Participants will learn on how to Direct, Shoot and Sell a film, Film Financing, Marketing and Distribution channels from Kenya Film Commission (KFC). They will also get a chance to interact and learn from Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) on matters Local Content Development, Programming Code and Complaints Procedure as well as Broadcast Monitoring and Broadcast Licensing, Film Licensing and Classification from Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), Copyright and Related Issues from Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) as well as Media ethics and professionalism in Journalism from Media Council of Kenya (MCK).

Criteria

  • By the end of the workshop, participants are expected to produce a Short film.

MASTER THE ART OF SCRIPTWRITING AND DIRECTING

Workshop Date 18th – 22nd February 2019

 In a bid to facilitate the uptake of 60 per cent local content quota by FTA TV broadcasters, the Kenya Film Commission facilitates master classes around the country for upcoming film makers. To date, the KFC has trained over 900 up-coming filmmakers in 18 counties.

The Commission collaborates with Communication Authority of Kenya to undertake the trainings focusing on bolstering the local content producers’ professional skills. These programmes are meant to equip film makers with regulatory, business and industry knowledge, which will enable them to provide quality and affordable local content for TV broadcasting, as well as enable them to compete successfully in the local, regional and international film environments.

Participants will learn about Film Financing, Marketing and Distribution channels from Kenya Film Commission (KFC), Copyright and Related Issues from Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) as well as Media ethics and professionalism in Journalism from Media Council of Kenya (MCK).   • By the end of the workshop, each participant is expected to develop a story that is feasible for filming.
