Financial literacy is increasingly becoming a critical pillar in building sustainable careers within Kenya’s creative economy. Recognising this, the Commission continues to advocate for initiatives that empower creatives with the knowledge and tools needed to achieve long-term financial security.
During a recent consultative forum held with CPF Financial Services, KFC team, underscored the importance of integrating financial planning into every creative’s professional journey. The discussions highlighted that while talent opens doors, financial literacy enables creatives to build resilient and sustainable careers.
The forum explored practical strategies for budgeting, saving, investing, and retirement planning, particularly within an industry where earnings are often project-based and irregular. Participants noted that early financial planning helps creatives establish financial stability, navigate income fluctuations, and create opportunities for long-term wealth creation.
The engagement further emphasized that strengthening Kenya’s creative economy requires more than developing artistic talent. Equipping creatives with sound financial management skills is equally essential in enabling them to make informed decisions that support career growth and lifelong financial wellbeing.
A key outcome of the consultative forum was the proposal to institutionalize regular financial empowerment sessions for creatives. These forums, to be facilitated by experts from CPF Financial Services, the Local Authorities Pension Trust (LAPTRUST), and the Local Authorities Pension Fund, will focus on financial literacy, investment planning, pension savings, and personal financial management.
The Kenya Film Commission remains committed to fostering a vibrant, resilient, and globally competitive creative sector by championing initiatives that empower creatives beyond their craft. Through strategic partnerships and capacity-building programmes, the Commission continues to support creatives in building not only successful careers but also financially secure futures.
