The 4th Kapchorwa Youth Empowerment Programme

The 4th Kapchorwa Youth Empowerment Programme

The Kenya Film Commission, in partnership with the Multimedia University of Kenya, concluded an inspiring Youth Empowerment and Creative Industry Sensitization Drive during the 4th Edition of the Kapchorwa Youth Empowerment Programme (KYEP) in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Held from 26–28 November 2025 under the theme “Innovating the Future with Education and Creative Arts,” this year’s programme brought together young people from learning institutions and innovation spaces across the region.

The week-long journey began in Nyaru, continued through HZ and Kamwosor, and culminated in Kapchorwa, each stop creating important touchpoints with rural and peri-urban youth. Across these centers, the Commission delivered sensitization sessions designed to close information gaps and introduce young people to opportunities within Kenya’s creative economy. Through exhibitions, film awareness activities, mentorship conversations, and interactive engagements, youth explored pathways in filmmaking, digital storytelling, innovation, leadership, entrepreneurship, and participation in platforms such as the Kalasha International Film & TV Market, Festival & Awards. The Commission offered guidance on film liaison services, certification and accreditation, talent development, and audience-building opportunities.

The climax of the event was held at Kapchorwa Primary School with representation by the Commission’s Chairperson, Mr. Sudi Mukhwana, and the CEO, Mr. Timothy Owase, who joined dignitaries, partners, community leaders, and youth champions in celebrating the region’s creativity and potential. In shared conversations with the youth, the Chairperson emphasized the value of vocational and technical training, encouraged young people to explore opportunities available through TVETs, and highlighted the need to embrace a spirit of excellence and maintain a teachable mindset. He also spoke on the exciting possibility of establishing film hubs in Kapchorwa spaces that would nurture talent, grow local content creation, and strengthen creative participation in the region.

The CEO underscored the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge, networks, and platforms that enable them to thrive in the creative economy.

This year’s impactful programme was made possible through the collaboration of the Multimedia University of Kenya, our sister agency the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), local leaders, educators, and the wider Elgeyo Marakwet community. Their support enriched every moment of the sensitization drive, culminating in a vibrant and memorable edition of KYEP.

Kenya Film Commission extends heartfelt appreciation to the warm and welcoming people of Keiyo for their hospitality and enthusiastic participation throughout the week.
