The Commission is strengthening partnerships with county governments and learning institutions to expand opportunities for filmmakers and creatives beyond traditional industry centers.
The Commission held strategic engagements with the Taita Taveta County Department of Tourism, Trade, Culture and Cooperatives, led by CECM Ms. Getrude Shuwe, and Taita Taveta University, led by Prof. Christine Onyango, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Research and Outreach. Representing the Commission were Ms. Sharon Otieno, Head of Corporate Communication, and Mr. Arnold Wanjala, Head of Marketing.
Discussions with the County Government focused on data sharing, decentralizing creative industry opportunities, capacity building and the establishment of creative incubation centers to support training, mentorship, production and industry linkages. At Taita Taveta University, the engagement explored ways to bridge the gap between learning and industry by building on students’ existing creative works and achievements. The focus is on creating opportunities for skills development, production, showcasing and connections with industry players.
Through collaboration between county governments, learning institutions and industry stakeholders, the Commission seeks to strengthen the pathway from talent development and training to production, market access and audiences.
With its rich cultural heritage, landscapes and diverse stories, Taita Taveta holds significant potential to contribute to Kenya’s creative economy and promote the county as a filming and tourism destination. The engagements reaffirm KFC’s commitment to fostering partnerships that nurture local talent, expand access to creative opportunities and bring more Kenyan stories to wider audiences.
