Kenya Film Commission Signs A Memorandum Of Understanding With Church Of God East Africa (K) To Establish A Film Resource Centre

On 29th May 2020, Kenya Film Commission led by our CEO Mr. Timothy Owase, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Church of God East Africa -Kenya to establish a Film Resource Centre in Vihiga County.

The signing ceremony was preceded by a courtesy call to the office of the Archbishop Dr. Byrum Makokha who shared his excitement ahead of the launch of this project and its impact on job creation and advancing the youth agenda.

This partnership is a significant milestone for creatives in the western region as it will open myriad of opportunities. This signing marked the onset of many strategic partnership opportunities with the church and other key stakeholders in advancing the film industry in the county.

As a Commission our focus is on creating opportunities, building capacity and creating an enabling environment for creatives in the various counties to create sustainable jobs and wealth.

“Churches in Kenya are synonymous with matters religion, but today we’re here to change this narrative. Our focus is to empower the members of community to have the requisite skills that will enable them make significant contribution to the creative sector in the country,” said Timothy Owase.

“The church is a unique space rich in stories. These stories have the potential to transform the society in a big way as they draw from real life experiences that can serve as useful edutainment,” Timothy further added.

This Film Resource Centre upon completion will serve a crucial role in nurturing talent of the creatives in the county and its environs.
