On Monday 12th, January, 2026, the Kenya Film Commission (KFC), led by Mr. Collins Okoth, Director of Strategy and Planning, hosted the 6th Cohort of the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) . The East African MultiChoice Academy, headed by Ms. Victoria Goro, OGW, is a strategic initiative focused on developing emerging film and television talent across Africa.
In his remarks, Mr. Okoth noted that the courtesy visit reaffirmed a shared commitment to industry capacity building, talent development, skills transfer, and the growth of Africa’s creative economy. He further lauded MultiChoice for its sustained investment in skills development and for strengthening Africa’s creative pipeline, which aligns with the Commission’s mandate.
Ms. Goro reiterated the Commission’s strategic role in facilitating industry growth through policy support, incentives, capacity building, location mapping, marketing, and international collaborations. She also highlighted the Academy’s contribution to the industry by building a strong pipeline of high-quality local content for African screens.
The visiting cohort is undertaking a fully funded nine-month training programme aimed at equipping emerging filmmakers with practical skills aligned to the business of film and television. The cohort comprises 20 students drawn from Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda, reflecting the program’s rich regional diversity. The training is delivered by leading African and international industry experts and combines theory with hands-on experience in cinematography, editing, audio production, and storytelling across multiple genres.
Mr. Okoth also invited the Academy and its students to participate in the upcoming Kalasha International Film and TV Market, Festival, and Awards, scheduled for 28th April -2nd May, 2026 at the Kenya International Convention Centre, Nairobi. Kalasha is a three-part event comprising the Film and TV Awards, the International Film and TV Market and the Festival which hosts a series of training workshops and masterclasses. He noted that Kalasha creates valuable opportunities for networking and business development, which students can leverage to build industry-relevant skills through mentorship, masterclasses, and hands-on learning experiences.
