Kenya Film Commission and Media Council of Kenya Deepen Strategic Collaboration to Strengthen Kenya’s Storytelling Ecosystem

The Commission hosted a delegation from the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), led by their Chief Executive Officer Mr. David Omwoyo, MBS, for a strategic engagement focused on deepening collaboration between Kenya’s media and creative sectors.

The meeting brought together leadership from both institutions to explore structured partnerships that reinforce excellence, innovation, and alignment within Kenya’s storytelling landscape.

Welcoming the delegation, KFC CEO Mr. Owase, emphasized the Commission’s role as a champion of Kenya’s film industry and a driver of the creative economy.

“Film and media are critical pillars in shaping how we tell our national story, As a Commission, we are deliberate about building partnerships that strengthen professional standards, nurture talent, and create sustainable platforms for Kenyan content to thrive both locally and globally.” Mr. Owase retaliated.

The engagement highlighted the synergy between the two sectors with film crafting compelling visual narratives and media amplifying and contextualizing those stories for national and international audiences.

Speaking during the meeting, MCK CEO Mr. Omwoyo underscored the importance of institutional collaboration in advancing responsible and impactful storytelling.

“The media and the creative industry are interconnected in powerful ways. By aligning our efforts, we can elevate storytelling standards, strengthen governance frameworks, and support a more cohesive and vibrant industry,” he noted.

Discussions explored collaboration opportunities around upcoming industry platforms and strategic engagements that bring together filmmakers, journalists, creatives, and media practitioners. Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to fostering innovation, encouraging ethical practice, and enhancing cross-sector dialogue.

The engagement reflects a shared vision to build stronger bridges between content creation and dissemination ensuring that Kenya’s stories are creatively produced and responsibly and widely shared.
