DISTANCES WINS IN MY KENYA MY STORY MOBILE PHONE FILM COMPETITION 2022

William Ogega, is the 2022 winner of My Kenya My story competition for a short film Distances winning a cash prize of Kshs 200,000 followed by Joel Wachira of 999 who walked away with a cash prize of KES 150,000 as the 1st runners up and the second runners up position went to Elyas Mahmoud of Ushuhuda who walked away with KES 100,000

My Kenya My Story mobile phone film competition, an initiative of the Film Commission  to grow Kenya’s film industry, focuses on application of affordable technology in telling stories. Participants use the smartphone over high-end equipment. The fifth edition, took place on 6th April 2022 at Kenya Cultural Center in Nairobi. This year’s theme was “Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Kenya”. This is in line with the Government’s aim to educate Kenyan citizens on possible risks and promptly provide information in the event of a disaster.

The theme highlighted a wide spectrum of perspectives as expressed by over 116 submissions, which were put through a thorough scrutiny by a five-member jury. In the Jury’s mention category, Indiana Osman of Youth Bila Stress film walked away with Kshs 50,000.

The Chief Administrative Secretary at Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs, Republic of Kenya Ms. Maureen Mbaka, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Government spokesperson Mr. Cyrus Oguna among other film stakeholders was also in attendance.
