The second edition of the Diani Film Festival came to a successful close, celebrating outstanding storytelling, creativity, and the continued growth of African cinema. The festival brought together filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts from across the continent, reaffirming the important role of film festivals in promoting African stories and strengthening the creative economy.

Among the top honours, Jua Kali, directed by Joash Omondi, was named Best African Short Film, while Les Âmes du Fouta, directed by Alpha Diallo, received the Best International Short Film award. Each winning filmmaker was presented with a KES 100,000 cash prize, co-presented by the Diani Film Festival.

This year’s African Short Film Competition, chaired by acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese, showcased the depth, diversity, and creativity of African storytelling, providing a platform for filmmakers to present compelling narratives to local and international audiences.

The Commission was represented by Commissioner Ilham Tasir, who emphasized the vital role of film festivals in nurturing audiences, creating opportunities for filmmakers, promoting cultural exchange, and driving the growth of the creative economy.

The Commission congratulates the award winners and all participating filmmakers for their exceptional contributions to African cinema. It also commends the Diani Film Festival for its continued commitment to providing a platform that amplifies African voices, showcases authentic stories, and strengthens the continent’s film industry.
