A total of 139 young creatives graduated from an intensive week-long filmmaking training programme jointly organized by the Kenya Film Commission (KFC) and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) between 21st and 27th June.
The programme equipped participants with practical filmmaking skills, industry knowledge, and creative tools to produce compelling Kenyan stories. Through hands-on training, mentorship, collaborative productions, and networking sessions with experienced industry professionals, the aspiring filmmakers gained valuable exposure to industry best practices.
Training covered the entire filmmaking value chain, with specialized sessions on pre-production, production, and post-production, enabling participants to strengthen both their technical and creative competencies. A dedicated session on Data Protection in the Creative Industry also emphasized the importance of safeguarding personal data, intellectual property, and creative works in today’s digital landscape.
As part of the programme, the DeKUT Film Hub hosted a special screening of Kenyan films in partnership with Tunga Media Africa. Audiences enjoyed a selection of locally produced films, including Ajeni, Uthasyo, Dinner for Three, Climate People, Kanairo, Lore, Inkidongi, Machini, Owadwa, and Sukari, celebrating the richness and diversity of Kenyan storytelling.
The initiative underscores the Kenya Film Commission’s commitment to nurturing filmmaking talent across the country. By investing in skills development and establishing regional film hubs and modern cinema theatres, the Commission continues to strengthen Kenya’s film ecosystem, promote a vibrant cinema-going culture, and position the country as a leading destination for film production while creating opportunities for sustainable growth within the creative economy.
