Over 700 youth equipped with creative skills during the Digital Media Tools Sensitization Workshops

Kenya Film Commission joined partnering stakeholders in celebrating 741 youth trained during a weeklong sensitization workshop geared in empowering content creators through digital innovation.

In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, equipping creatives with the right tools and skills is essential for unlocking opportunities in Kenya’s creative economy. It is against this backdrop that the Commission in partnership with Genesis Media Factory, Technopolis Development Authority (formerly Konza Technopolis), and Posta Kenya, successfully conducted the Digital Media Tools Sensitization Workshops 2026 from 22nd to 25th June 2026.

The five-day workshop brought together aspiring and established photographers, videographers, video editors, graphic designers, and digital strategists for an immersive learning experience designed to enhance digital competencies and strengthen their competitiveness in the creative industry.

Organized under the Jitume Digital Media Factory initiative, the workshop introduced participants to emerging digital media technologies, industry-standard creative tools, and best practices that are shaping today’s content creation landscape. The sessions emphasized the growing importance of digital skills in enabling creatives to produce high-quality content, build sustainable careers, and access opportunities in both local and international markets.

Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in practical demonstrations, interactive discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions led by experienced facilitators and industry practitioners. The training explored key areas including digital content production, photography, videography, video editing, graphic design, content optimization, audience engagement, and digital storytelling.

As a strategic partner, the Commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that nurture creative talent and strengthen the country’s audiovisual sector. The Commission continues to champion programmes that enhance the capacity of Kenyan filmmakers and digital content creators, in line with its mandate to develop, promote, and market Kenya as a preferred destination for film production and investment.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Commission’s CEO Mr. Timothy Owase underscored the critical role that digital innovation plays in transforming the creative economy, particularly at a time when content consumption continues to shift towards online and mobile platforms. By investing in skills development, Kenya is creating a workforce that is better prepared to respond to emerging industry demands and leverage digital platforms for economic growth.

“Everyone is a creator. Creativity is reflected in our everyday lives—from the moment we wake up to the choices we make, such as what to wear and how we express ourselves. The audiovisual sector supports approximately 240 professional opportunities, both directly and indirectly,” the CEO noted.

Present during the graduation ceremony were Technopolis Development Authority CEO John Paul Okwiri, Genesis Design Factory Managing Partner Mike Mwiti, UK- Kenya Tech Hub Country Director Enos Waswa, and Technopolis Development Authority Chief Manager for Business Development and Innovation Josephine Ndambuki, Technopolis Development Authority Manager for Knowledge Economy and Innovation Dr. Ruth Muriithi, among other dignitaries.

The collaboration between the Kenya Film Commission, Genesis Media Factory, the Technopolis Development Authority, and Posta Kenya demonstrates the value of strategic partnerships in building a vibrant and inclusive creative ecosystem. Such collaborations provide young creatives with access to mentorship, industry networks, and practical skills that can translate into employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

The workshop also served as a platform for networking, allowing participants to connect with fellow creatives, industry experts, and potential collaborators. These interactions are expected to foster new partnerships and encourage the exchange of ideas that will continue to drive Kenya’s creative sector forward.

As Kenya advances its digital transformation agenda, initiatives such as the Digital Media Tools Sensitization Workshops are playing a pivotal role in equipping creatives with the knowledge and confidence needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive global marketplace.
