The Kenya Film Commission has revealed a Jury of experts for the third edition of “My Kenya My Story” mobile phone film competition. This is a competition for short Kenyan films shot exclusively using mobile phones. This year’s edition is themed “COVID 19 – Staying at Home and Social Distancing”. By close of submission on 3rd June 2020, the competition had received 252 submissions from across the country.
The Jury comprises: Mr. Eugene Mbugua, Mrs. Carole Gikandi Omondi, Mr. Arjen Westra, Mr. Mwendwa Kilundo and Ms. Nice Githinji. The five-member Jury has been tasked to review the entries, shortlist nominees and tally the votes. The Jury vote will constitute 70% while an online public voting exercise will constitute 30% of the total vote.
The best short film will receive Ksh 200,000 while the first and second runners up will receive Ksh 150,000 and Ksh 100,000 respectively.
This competition seeks to inspire creativity among filmmakers in the country and to widen the scope of film making using smart phones. This year’s theme is centered on the experiences during the current COVID 19 pandemic and the resulting call to stay at home and maintain social distance.
The winners of this edition will be announced on 30th June 2020.
