Mr. Joshua Achiya Akwara is the Director, Strategy and Business Development at the Kenya Film Commission.
As the Director, Strategy and Business Development; he is responsible for developing and reviewing business development strategies, policies, guidelines, standards and procedures for the film industry; overseeing the management of film industry research; coordinating archiving of Kenya’s film records; promoting and marketing Kenya locally and internationally as a filming destination; coordinating resource mobilization and partnerships in the film industry; planning and overseeing the development and review of the Commission’s Strategic Plan.
Mr. Akwara holds a Master of Business Administration majoring in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi, Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Marketing from Maseno University and a Practitioners Diploma in Marketing from the Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK). He is a full (individual) member with the Marketing Society of Kenya and a Full Member at Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) as well as a Strategic Leadership Development Program graduate from the Kenya School of Government. Above all he upholds Integrity and Professionalism as key pillars in life.
Prior to joining the Commission, he was the County Director, Co-operatives with the County Government of Busia where he provided key technical and policy guidance in the Co-operatives sector. Other key engagements include having served as the Regional Coordinator, Youth Enterprise Development Fund, Western Region and as a Co-operative Officer with the Ministry of Co-operative Development and Marketing.
