This is the oldest city in Kenya. It is located on the island of Lamu, approximately 265 km north of Mombasa. 95% of the inhabitants are Muslim and are likely to hear Arabic / Kiswahili. XII century, Lamu is the only stronghold left alive of Swahili in East Africa. There is a museum within the city, where tourists can find various cultural artefacts dating back to the precolonial period.
