KENYA FILM COMMISSION ANNOUNCES SECOND EDITION OF MOBILE PHONE FILM COMPETITION

On 15th May 2019, Kenya Film Commission announced a call for entries of the second edition for the Mobile Phone Film Competition dubbed My Kenya My Story.

Kenyan creatives can now submit their projects for competition for cash prizes. The jury – made up of seasoned industry professionals, will scrutinize the entries submitted for the best top three films shot exclusively on mobile phones. The jury’s vote will make up 70% of the final vote. The submissions will be put up for public voting which will contribute to 30% of the total vote.

Last year the competition attracted a whopping 706 submissions garnering interest from over 35 countries, as far as USA, Mexico, UK, France, Russia, Japan among many others. These huge numbers suggest that the global community is interested in the Kenyan film industry and the content produced therein.

Kenya Film Commission CEO notes that the ultimate business objective the Commission wants to contribute through the competition, is not only to indirectly grow awareness of its mandate but also create interest and spark creativity in people of all ages with limited resources. This is aimed at inspiring creative Kenyans and amateur filmmakers to live to their full potential and realize the opportunity to fulfil their dream.

The competition requires that artists should make short films telling Kenyan stories, choose from the various genres such as drama, documentary, animation and reality running for a maximum of 7 minutes. Interested participants can check the Terms and Conditions of the competition here

My Kenya My Story is a mobile phone film competition run by Kenya Film Commission aimed at expanding the scope of filmmaking and inspiring creativity among the filmmakers in the country.
